A picture named economist.gifToday's innovation in AggregatorLand will allow people to create user interfaces for UserLand's engine in any language or environment. In Flash, .NET, Java, DHTML, Cocoa, Python, Tcl, Perl, you name it. People want every kind of user interface imaginable. We want to leverage the work we've done in aggregation engines across all possible environments.

Here it is: Radio's XML-RPC Interface for the Aggregator

Just as we finished the spec, and I linked it in here, the power went out. Heh. Running on batteries now. A power blowout was not entirely unexpected, and this time the timing was good. Jake is going to get the implementation for the Aggregator API out through the Radio-Dev list tonight for testing. I'm going to be reading by candle light and singing the praises of Murphy. Next steps after that are to work on some sample apps to be sure we have covered all the bases in the API.

Tara Sue: "The campaign is only the beginning."

As a developer, I live for messages like the one posted by Jack Greenwood on Russ Beattie's weblog.

Yesterday I pointed to a mysterious quote about vaporware from Diego Doval, a developer with great ambitions. Today Russ Beattie leaked a pointer to Doval's non-vaporous beta that's bound to get Chandler hope-fors buzzing.

Aaron Swartz: "What other New York Times writer gets to push their own products in news stories?" Amen.

The W3C made a deal with the devil a couple of years back. They should have kicked the patent abusers out and forced them to form their own trade association, and kept patents out of the W3C entirely. "All members must disclaim all patents in areas where the W3C is active." That would have separated the men from the boys. Instead they try to straddle the fence, and are flip-flopping, and one possible voice of sanity, one that should be speaking out against the madness, is just a lackey for the corruption of the Bigs.

A picture named weathersmall.gifGood morning rain buffs! We're having our first storm of the season in Northern California. Soon we'll have roof leaks, power outages, floods, mudslides etc etc. For now it just smells nice outside, everything is wet, the earth is refreshed, the dust is settled. Interesting. Four years ago on this day we were having our first winter storm of 1998.

I'm getting tired of saying this, but another kickass West Wing last night. This time a new and welcome theme. The president is a man, but he's not very strong. Women say we need more strong female role models, and perhaps that true; but we also need more not-strong male role models. Too much is made of the male ability to endure anything and everything. It's nice to see a man exist and not be omnipotent and all-knowing. It's a lie to think we're all Clint Eastwood, Popeye, or even Seinfeld. Those are just actors. Real men are not so perfect. I suppose that's one of the reasons I like The Simpsons so much, and why All In The Family was such a hit. Hey, I can relax watching that.

Two years ago today was the crazy election that wasn't decided for many weeks to come. I put my stake in the ground. "Gore will win." Hehe.
